Hey Harry its Kay-C, I hope all is well, I have to personally say that I dont think I have been as active with the BUC since the end of the project due to several things such as travelling and uni etc. I’d like to let you know that the BUC has definately developed my skills as an individual and also indirectly helped me to aim for different things on all kinds of levels. For instance this summer I was in China because I was selected by The Prime Minister Gordon Brown to take part in a scheme entitled ‘The Prime Minister’s Global Fellowship’.
It’s not a musical project but more like a business and cultural internship and 100 students in England were selected to travel to either China/ India/ Brazil for 6 and learn about the countries language, culture, history, politics, business and also evaluate their education system etc. The scheme soley focuses on raising awareness on the social, environmantal and economic effects of globalisation. It was truly a life changing experience for me and changed my perception of certain things about how I view the world etc. The BUC has helped me in terms of developing my skills as an individual not just musically but skills I acquired during it aswell. It was a very competitive scheme to get involved with due to the fact that everyone who selected was selected for the interview section was a strong conteder in their own right.
I met people from Oxford and Cambridge university studying medicine etc etc basically highly academic individuals who had achieved alot both academicly and outside their studies too. The fellowship however was not soley based on academic criteria all fellows were selected based on such skills as enterprise, innovation, leadership i.e self starters. I partially credit my involvement with the BUC for prviding me with a good experience and providing with good material I could use as part of my application and providing me with a basis of future things to come. So thank you once again for the experience hopefully you can keep it running because I think its a great idea indeed and I also think you guys should even possibly get more funding for it.
Whilst I was in China, all the fellows were required to create a final presentation. It could be anything you wanted, some people wrote blogs everyday of their experiences and created a book at the end, some people did picture collages, some people did presented a speach etc and me being a musician obviously I decided to write a song about my experience in China. So I wrote a song called ‘I Dont Wanna Go’ which I performed at the final showcase in Shanghai. I’ve also gone on to perform this song at several places in London including recently at Lancaster House infront of the Prime Minister Gordon Brown and a very prestigious audience. It was an amazing experience and made it even more so clear to me that anything is truly possible if you believe in yourself. I was also selected to be funded by my college this year and take part in an Aim Higher Project to record my music at a professional studio and I have created an album (listen to tracks songs on the following link https://www.noisetrade.com/kayc#). I have since then dicided to give the money I earn from this album to charity.
Otherwise this email is just to thank you again and give you the recognition you deserve in creating such programs and encourage you to keep aiming high and developing them and your business for the better. I also just wanted to do some catching up with you just to let you know what I have been doing. I am now currently at Aston University studyin Business and Management. Lastly I’m sorry for such a long email but I hope beneficial.
best regards
Kay-C
