Scorpion Jack

Scorpion Jack are a musical duo comprising of Rohan Young and David Preston. Rohan plays percussion and David sings and plays guitar. Our set up is simple and though we play quite a few different instruments we play the majority of our gigs with Bodhran, a traditional Irish drum, acoustic steel strung guitar and voice.

In 2009 we played around 214 shows though its hard to keep track of them because we play all sorts of places, buses, the underground in London – whilst on the move, pubs, clubs, art galleries, coffee shops, the street whilst making guerrilla music videos and anywhere else where we are asked to, where we have an inkling to and wherever else takes our fancy.

In December ‘09 we headed off to London to play and then Scotland. We had an excellent time, played in lovely places and met some wonderful people. We’ve been making little video blogs as we’ve gone along and will be drip feeding them up on to youtube for general information and amusement.

High energy acoustic folk rock, thats what we play and thats what we like. Influenced by the classic music, whether that be in the genres of classical, rock, metal, traditional, ambient, punk, hip-hop, drum ‘n’ bass or otherwise. Whats that? Confusing classifications of types of music. Well thats cause the current method of classifying isn’t exact or scientific, its more stylish and evolving designed to capture the attention of readers in music press magazines where your skinny jeans and sideways hair allows you to traverse the difficult road to what is what. Fear not baggy trousered sorts, or those with the latter attire with the genre knowledge, there is on the way a periodic table of musical genres based roughly upon Mendeleev’s unbelievable periodic table made all those years ago.

Obviously, with the heavy metals on the left of the original periodic table they represent the metal side of things and then the Nobel gases on the other side with be Ambient and down-tempo type things.

In 2010 Scorpion Jack will be releasing their debut Album, “No thanks, Yes please!” which will be right and excellent I can tell thee.

Due out on the 7 March it is in the processing of being nailed down. We play live gigs that last three hours and some or songs are 20 minutes long, rather than epic prog rock kind of things we instead blend songs together more akin to a DJ set than an acoustic songster. Our Prod-Rock and Acid-Trad stylings are new, they are ready to be unleashed upon the unbeknown ears of the millions of music fans that this world has created. The live lyrics and ridiculous rhythms will soon be permeating across lots of different locations ready to beam you up to the next……place.

Anyway, enough of that sort of thing and more of the live music listening information.
