Jean Louie Bohemian Boombox
Hailing from the North of Glasgow, Louie has been practicing the art of hip-hop since he was 14. At 16 he left school as part of a full time hip-hop crew, with a desire to endorse the traditional ‘story telling’ element of emceeing the venture has now spanned seven hard working years. In that time Louie has been actively involved in trying to push the boundaries of lyrically motivated music in Scotland. As part of a 4 piece hip-hop crew, Louie worked for two years on what was to be the groups self released, self published debut album ‘Social Insecurity’. The songs were written and recording had started when the other band members began to grow apart. The friendships that were so strong in the beginning had wained, and for some people within the group the desire to succeed had been diluted and Louie decided to persue his creative goals as a solo artist.
In 2006 he represented Scotland and The United Kingdom performing at ‘Popkomm Festival’ in Berlin, Germany as well as making several radio appearances on BBCRadio Scotland, BBC1Extra and Radio Clyde and earning a support slot with Grammy award winning Fat Man Scoop. In 2007 Louie was asked to put his creative writing skills to a different use, in ‘Urban Opera’ a project funded byScottish Art’s Council’s Youth Music Initiative. Louie was involved in the writing of the narrative, as well penning some of the songs to carry the storyline forward and then performing as one of the main characters as the thought provoking plot unfolds. Around the same time, Louie started leading creative writing workshops in and around Glasgow working free lance for various community arts organisations including NRFG, Depot Arts, Culture And Sport Glasgow,Impact Arts, Urban Learning Space.
In 2008 Louie started a creative partnership with Glasgow bsed hip-hop producer Shahab Mohebpour who was also later selected to be a member of British Urban Collective’s production team in Glasgow. Louie and Shah work together under the alias ‘BohemianBoomBox’ and hadcompleted a mixtape ‘Tremor Vibes’ and written a fully fledged album ‘Hope Street’ which is to be released on Deadlife Entertainment as well as the follow up album ‘High Street/Travel Sickness’produced alongside Beatbox legend Bigg Taj. Recent support slots included opening up for Skinnyman, Respek BA, GrandMasterFlash, The IRS. Information and release dates for both albums will be available at www.myspace.com/bohemianboombox
